Australia Trip 2011! Part 1

So, I went on a cruise in Australia over the summer, and I had a blast! I met many different people, including some friends that I will treasure for as long as I can. We went to many different ports of call such as Broome, Brisbane, Townsville, Bali (I know right), Port Douglas, along with many others. We had many different tours and I actually did stay on the ship a lot because the kids club was amazing! The counselors were great, 2 from Mexico and two from the Phillipines. Many Filipino people work on cruise ships, as they pay better than most jobs in their home country. If you want a family oriented cruise line that is very good, check out Princess Cruises. We went on the Sun Princess, a nice, smaller boat with all the accomodations of other ships, but not too big like the "Crown Princess", which fits at least 2500-maybe 4000 passengers, and more than 900 crewmembers.  Anyways, there were so many old people on the ship (excuse me for saying this next part), it was like a "FLOATING GERIATRICS WARD"! Sorry about that, it wasn't meant to offend anybody. However, literally,  there were a total of 23 kids (some left too) on a ship of about 1500 people. The explanation for it was because that Australia had already started school before the US. Whereas we get about 11-ish weeks for Summer Break, they get 7 weeks. But, they spread more vacations out throught the year. Now, let's get down to the part you've been waiting for. Don't get too excited (later it will get better), truthfully, the food on the ship was horrible (except for the french fries and the lobster and prawns), which I thought was strange, because their food is usually superb in quality. We all took an assumption that since they were catering to the elderly (oops, sorry there)...you get the point. Even though the food had sophisticated names, it was horrible. But, some of the simple stuff (like beef brisket), was AMAZING! Don't get me wrong the food is usually good, so don't take my comments as a negative statement (and I'm getting too into detail, aren't I).

Now, hopefully after you heard my semi-rant, here;s the good part. After the cruise, which lasted for 17 days, we went to Melbourne for 3 days (so win). We stayed in a Sofitel Luxury Hotel, which is French. Everything was overpriced, $25 for a steak sandwich, but the breakfast was pretty much free. Now, let me tell you about the breakfast. The breakfast was thebestdamnbreakfastyou'llevereat. Sorry 'bout that, lemme clear that up for you. I said, "It's the best damn breakfast you'll ever eat." The sausage is heavenly (sorry if it offended you, I'm a practicing Christian too), with pork and herby goodness. This will turn pork-haters into pork-lovers/beggers (kina corny). The mushrooms have a subtle flavor, with the mushroom not overpowering the sauce. They have good "other" breakfast items too.

To see the rest, tune in next time.
