Australia Trip 2011! Part 1

So, I went on a cruise in Australia over the summer, and I had a blast! I met many different people, including some friends that I will treasure for as long as I can. We went to many different ports of call such as Broome, Brisbane, Townsville, Bali (I know right), Port Douglas, along with many others. We had many different tours and I actually did stay on the ship a lot because the kids club was amazing! The counselors were great, 2 from Mexico and two from the Phillipines. Many Filipino people work on cruise ships, as they pay better than most jobs in their home country. If you want a family oriented cruise line that is very good, check out Princess Cruises. We went on the Sun Princess, a nice, smaller boat with all the accomodations of other ships, but not too big like the "Crown Princess", which fits at least 2500-maybe 4000 passengers, and more than 900 crewmembers.  Anyways, there were so many old people on the ship (excuse me for saying this next part), it was like a "FLOATING GERIATRICS WARD"! Sorry about that, it wasn't meant to offend anybody. However, literally,  there were a total of 23 kids (some left too) on a ship of about 1500 people. The explanation for it was because that Australia had already started school before the US. Whereas we get about 11-ish weeks for Summer Break, they get 7 weeks. But, they spread more vacations out throught the year. Now, let's get down to the part you've been waiting for. Don't get too excited (later it will get better), truthfully, the food on the ship was horrible (except for the french fries and the lobster and prawns), which I thought was strange, because their food is usually superb in quality. We all took an assumption that since they were catering to the elderly (oops, sorry there)...you get the point. Even though the food had sophisticated names, it was horrible. But, some of the simple stuff (like beef brisket), was AMAZING! Don't get me wrong the food is usually good, so don't take my comments as a negative statement (and I'm getting too into detail, aren't I).

Now, hopefully after you heard my semi-rant, here;s the good part. After the cruise, which lasted for 17 days, we went to Melbourne for 3 days (so win). We stayed in a Sofitel Luxury Hotel, which is French. Everything was overpriced, $25 for a steak sandwich, but the breakfast was pretty much free. Now, let me tell you about the breakfast. The breakfast was thebestdamnbreakfastyou'llevereat. Sorry 'bout that, lemme clear that up for you. I said, "It's the best damn breakfast you'll ever eat." The sausage is heavenly (sorry if it offended you, I'm a practicing Christian too), with pork and herby goodness. This will turn pork-haters into pork-lovers/beggers (kina corny). The mushrooms have a subtle flavor, with the mushroom not overpowering the sauce. They have good "other" breakfast items too.

To see the rest, tune in next time.

To be continued!

Review #10: Umemura

Hey, it's Stephen! I haven't been posting for a while. I've been procrastinating, going on vacation, going to summer school, and doing what people do in the summer. Anyways, since I got back from Australia (I'll fill you in later), I've been craving Asian food. So, when my Japanese friend, Huss on FIC, came over, we went to go eat Umemura ramen. This place is not your run-of-the-mill ramen joint. They actually make their own ramen from scratch, so it qualifies as HOMEMADE. Don't bother with the soft, chewy ramen (although it is pretty good) or the cup noodles this place has some good eats. Don't hate on me for this. If you like chewy ramen with a bite, the place is for you, if njot, you should still give it a try. This place also has a B rating, but in my honest opinion, it deserves better. If you are worried about sanitation, don't worry, it's very clean. I'll tell you what we had now.

Dad: Shoyu Ramen
Huss: Miso Ramen
Me: Yakiniku Ramen w/ Fried Shrimp

To me, Umemura serves an OK shoyu ramen (shoyu is soy sauce). It's too salty for my tastes, but it has a unique flavor, which I'm sure some of you might like. Now, we get to the good part, the Miso Ramen. Their Miso Ramen is heavenly (no offense). Whereas restaurants usually use red or other misos, they use white miso. They infuse the miso broth with pork flavor, so it has a nice, rich and scrumptious flavor. Yakiniku Ramen, in their version, is Miso Ramen with BBQ pork in it. This is also good. The fried shrimp was ehh, not bad, not really good either. When you come here, be prepared for copious amounts of noodle goodness. Don't come if you're a light eater or on a diet. I don't recommend getting an extra portion of noodles, you'll have an extremely hard time finishing it. This place is also very authentic, whith Japanese waitresses. The restaurant is mainly filled with Asian people. The ambience is not romantic at all, and the decor is not the most attractive thing I've ever seen, but to me, the food is worth it.

I give Umemura a 4.5-4.6 out of 5 for food.
I give Umemura a 2.3 out of 5 on ambience.

P.S. Try the fried rice. It's really good.

Review #9: Yunchuan Garden

Hey, it's me, Stephen. Anyways, I went to a restaurant called Yunchuan Garden in Monterey Park. I went there a while ago, and I have been procrastinating on posting, so I don't remember the date, exactly..... This place, has many cuisines of China served. There are many cuisines, Fujian, Shanxi, Shanghai, Sichuan, Hunan, Yunnan, Huaiyang, just to name a few. Yes, I am chinese, and I am not typing in chinese(one reason is because I don't know how to, so if anybody can help me, that would be greatly appreciated). Anways, they have very traditional and great Sichuan, Yunnan, and other cuisines. They serve it up right!  However, unfortunately, their service isn't as good. But, you do get to choose your dish of appetizers when you walk to the counter (not free). What we got:

Spicy Beef Noodle Soup-
This thing is da bomb! It's soooo frickin' good! It's the best spicy beef noodle I've ever had, and let me tell you, I've had a lot.The beef is a tiny bit sweet, which makes it so much better. The spicy(well, not for me) broth just warms you up on a cold night, and as jumjmboi on FIC says, heartwarming. The place is not the most sanitary, as they got a B, but they definitely have improved over the years, making it in my opinion, almost an A. It's pretty clean to me, and I think think B rated places taste just as good, or better than some A rated restaurants. The noodles are perfect, soft, but chewy, just perfect. They absorb the soup, filling the noodles with this highly concertrated nirvana known as broth.

Yunnan Rice Noodle Special(or at least that's what I call it)-
This is their signature dish, and it's good. Their mi fen, or rice noodles(like vermicelli), is sooo good. The best I've had. Combine that with a clear broth, pork, chicken, and tofu skin, and you've got your self a little bit of heaven. Of course, this is only my opinion.

Appetizers-
So, you walk in, you go to the counter, order your appetizers that have been sitting under the heat lamp, and this may sound pretty bad. However, the appetizers are so good, not dried out it the least bit. There are ma la(hot and numbing) chicken wings and pig ears, as well as pork lung, there are chicken and duck necks, seasoned wet seaweed, veggies, pickled mustard greens, and tofu skin. The common stuff.

I give this a 4.6 out of 5.

Mammoth Ski Trip with Quadruple Reviews

Sorry I didn't post in a while...This is includes details on my ski trip to Mammoth Mountain in Mammoth Lakes, CA, my Review on The Pita Pit: Try Number 1 and 2, Shogun Japanese Restaurant, Burgers Restaurant, and the Mountains food itself. These are reviews # 5, 6, 7, and 8. Hey! it's me, Stephen! So, on Sunday, April 3rd, I set out for Mammoth Mountain, hoping some friends could go *coughhussonFIC(FoodIslandCommunity)cough*. They didn't, and I got sick on Wednesday and Thursday. It sucked, and I couldn't go skiing, and what sucks even more is that I have school tomorrow. Anways, the skiing was great for Spring. Spring skiing is usually slushy and icy, which was what it was on Monday and Tuesday, which is okay with me. However, Friday and Saturday were GREATTT powder days. As I say, Mammoth has the BEST snow in Cali. Monday and Tuesday I skied the top, Climax, Cornice Bowl, and Scotty's. Gravy Chute in the center. These are black and double black diamonds and I'm not trying to brag or anything, I can't just do them. Was going to Paranoids(Paranoid Flats), but I didn't. I ski on my own Fischer Watea 78s. 159 in length. 122 I think in front, 78 underfoot, and I think 107 in back. For those of you who are not familiar with Mammoth, those are run names. Mammoth is big for what it is, a town in the Eastern Sierra, but it is a small little place where the locals know each other. On other travel and review sites, Mammoth locals have been reported to be hostile towards the tourists. Just to let you know, these CLAIMS are not true. They are written by people who just hype up something. All the locals are nice, friendly, warm people. They DO NO HARM. It's layout is basic. There is a place called the Village, the main part of town, then there are houses and condo and whatnot. Then, on the slopes, there are three lodges, or areas to ski out of, Eagle, Canyon, and Main. There is also the Mill, which serves up great barbeque. Now, we get to the food. Also, just to let you know you won't get super posh, gourmet food in the mountains, and a solid 4.0 is very good, a curve in the system.

Review #5: The Pita Pit Try #1 and 2
This place is alll over the country, just to let u know. kk. Where do I start, ah yes, the Pita Pit is a place where they serve items involving pita bread, as the name implies. No duh, they serve naan. JK. The place is not very traditional mediterranean food, you won't find it in Mammoth. Think Subway when you think of the Pita Pit. You choose your pita, white or wheat. You choose your meat, whether it be veggie(no meat), Gyros(Beef), Souvlaki(Chicken), or some other chicken or something. then, you choose your toppings, of fresh veggies, mushrooms, cheeses, bacon, or other stuff. Finally, you choose your sauce, Tzatziki, Secret Sauce(Spicy Vinaigrette(SP?)), BBQ, Teriyaki, or something else. Yes, they do have Teriyaki Sauce. Not traditional, like I said. These are not like pita pockets like you would get in Greece, and I have had them in Greece, they are 20 times better! Get the meat though, it tastes much better, unless you are vegetarian. It's good stuff though. I got, on my first time, a gyros with white pita, with lettuce, spinach, and tzatziki. My dad got a souvlaki with lettuce, mushrooms, tomato, white pita, spinach, and secret sauce. On my second try, my dad got the same thing, except with souvlaki, I got two pitas on wheat, one gyros, one souvlaki, with same toppings and sauce except I added mushroom. I rate The Pita Pit 4.1 out of 5 stars. The service brought it lower, even though they were quick, they didn't smile, and seemed bored, maybe it was jut those particular staff.

Review #6: Shogun Japanese Restaurant
Ok, I don't know why everyone is bashing on Shogun, saying, that it's horrible, never go there again, but in all of my 20-40 experiences there, they have all been very enjoyable. First of all, be sure to get there early, 5:00 PM or so, to beat the dinner crowd. It gets busy. The service is usually pretty good, if you get there early, it deteriorates a little bit. Second of all, don't expect LA quality sushi(although their Robbie roll, named after the original owner, is almost or just as good as any roll in So Cal., also, it's my favorite roll), it's hundreds of miles away, the only Japanese place for 30 miles, and the only one in Mammoth. Third of all, it's not super traditional Japanese cuisine. Fourth of all, it is a little pricey, but of course, it's in the mountains. They also opened a new place down in Bishop, called Yamatani. Haven't been there, but will post the link. My dad and I split an Robbie roll(8 pieces), and almost couldn't finish, as in the mountains, I think your stomach shrinks, if you're not used to it. Mammoth is the only place where I acrually get super full, unless I've been snacking. We also shared a Chicken Teriyaki Dinner(sauce on the side, as my dad doesn't like sauce). The sauce is a little sweet, but good. The chicken is grilled very nicely and has good flavor. It is served with cabbage and a weird tasting Asian inspired Thousand Island dressing. Even though it tastes weird, if you get over it, it is actually very ggod. The Beef Kushiyaki(skewered beef), Yakitori, and Sukiyaki are very good. The Yakitori isn't very traditional, but the Sukiyaki is. They are the only place I've been(I haven't been to many places that serve Sukiyaki) that actually serves it with a raw egg, like they do in Japan. Don't be afraid of Salmonella, unless you are super sensitive. FYI, the sushi takes a long time, for some reason, usually comes with or after the main course is served. Everything is served with Tsukemono(pickled cabbage) and Miso Soup(it's good). The fish quality is ok. I rate this place 4.3-4.4 out of 5 stars.

Stuff to Try:
Appetizers:
Sweet and Sour Chicken wings(I think that's what it is).

Main Courses:
Beef Kushiyaki
Chicken Katsu or Tonkatsu
Teriyaki Chicken

Sushi:
Robbie

Review #7: Burgers Restaurant

This place, it's been here for a longgg time, since the 70's or earlier I think. I swear I thought it was named Mooseburgers at one point, but maybe I'm getting it confused with Mooseburgers Restaurant at Six Flags Magic Mountain. It's been called Burger's Burgers, but they changed the name to what it is now. They have the hands down BEST burger I've ever had. You get to choose between turkey, beef, or buffalo(the best). Buffalo is lower in fat and cholesterol, healthier than beef. Then, you choose toppings from mushrooms, blue cheese, guacamole(good), and other toppings. You get a choice between crispy, golden, delicious fries, or a plain garden salad. *Psst, go with the fries* You also get a choice of Thousand Island or BBQ Sauce to dip your burgers and fries in. The price is reasonable, and the place is just downright cozy, with nice staff, and filled with friendly locals and tourists alike. Also, their BBQ Ribs are pretty good, but get the burgers. The Chicken Noodle Soup is very good, the Beef Stew has an interesting flavor. They have HUGE portions. A whole bowl for salad, nice vinaigrette. Get there early(about 5:10 PM or 5:30 PM, more towards 5:10 PM), or come late(past 8:00-8:30 PM), or you'll have to wait a long, 15-45 min. I rate this place 4.6-4.7 out of 5 stars.

Finally: Review #8: Mammoth Mountain

Ok, the lowdown on the Mountain's Food(the food served by the owners of the ski resort and slopes). GOOD to VERY GOOD. At the Mill, they have some of the best BBQ around, whether it be ribs, tri-tip(the best), brisket, pulled pork, or others. It's not tradtional southern BBQ, but it has a huge smoke ring, lucious pink. Little Eagle, the Yodler(a bar), and Outpost 14 are places I don't know about, I haven't eaten there. McCoy Station, named after the original owner and founder of Mammoth Mountain, who lease the land from the US Forest Service for 99 years, Dave McCoy, serves up good food, including grilled, pasta, pizza, asian, and soups. It used to be called the Mid-Chalet. The mountain has a place for kids in the Ski and Snowboard School porgram to eat. The Main Lodge also has some good food. Canyon Lodge's Grizzly Somethingerather(I forgot what it's called) serves good food too. Another awesome place in the McCoy Station, Wafflewich Co., serves up delicious grub. They have super awesome ,tantalizing for your taste buds, mouth watering, food that I crave. They serve, wait for it.......waffle sandwiches like Turkey with Chipotle Mayo and other stuff, and ones filled with Nutella and Banana. I rate Mammoth Mountain's food, 4.1-4.4 out of 5 stars.

Review #4: Buffalo Wild Wings/Wingnuts

Buffalo Wild wings....mmm..... hey, it's me, Stephen. Anyways, I've got another review tonight. This one is on, you guessed it, folks, Buffalo Wild Wings @ Del Amo Fashion Center in Torrance, CA! This place is an All-American sports bar-style restaurant, like most wing places are. BWW(Buffalo Wild Wings) has the best wings in Torrance, that I've had. Another good place is Wingnuts,  and I'll get to that later. BWW has 16 different sauces and some dry seasonings and serves killer onion rings, ok fries, pretty good ribs, boneless and traditional(boned) wings. Other diner-esque food too. (I'll let's you in on a secret, go for the traditional wings, not just because they're the status quo of wings). They have a Blazin' Challenge. Man vs. Food......So anyways, the blazin' challenge involve the Blazin' sauce, their hottest sauce. I just got an order of wings, to try some, and the first bite was not hot at all. I use ranch on my wings. The second bite, HOWEVER, was the hottest fricking thing I have ever put in my mouth. The pain was burning, I couldn't talk for 20 straight minutes, and I can take Extra spicy Soondubu Jjigae at any place. My dad forced my to drink a glass of milk when we got home, even though I was fine. FYI, spicy food can't burn your stomach lining, but it can cause acid reflux if not careful. The wild sauce, the second hottest is not spicy at all for me. A little noisy.

What my friend, Huss on Food Island forums, my dad, and I got:
Kids Meal Traditonal Wings Mild Sauce(My friend hate spicy so he thought that was too hot.)
6 Mango Habanero auce Traditional Wings
6 Chipotle BBQ Dry Seasoning Traditional
12 Honey BBQ Traditional
Order of Onion Rings w/ Buffalo flavored sauce

When you're in the area give it a try.

Wingnuts
This place has an airplane theme. The staff are nice, kinda noisy. Very noisy if you're there for teh Super Bowl or the football days. This is my go-to wing place in the O.C. My second favorite place. 3.9 of 5 stars. Has a Pile High club for wings or something.

    Review #3: Inka Wasi

Yup, I haven't posted in a while, cuz I have like almost no time. This is he-who-must-not-be-named (jk, not him). So, anyways, on Sunday, 3/20, I went to Inka Wasi in Rancho Palos Verdes. I think my friend told me it was called "Inka Hole".>.<  The name is fitting, since it is almost like a hole in the wall joint. My friends parents own this awesome Peruvian restaurant. In fact, their family owns the chain, El Pollo Inka, but this is better. You know what it is, what it is, if your from the South Bay. Song reference! For some, reason, it reminded of when my Algebra Accel teacher played ang sang math songs using jingles like Pop goes the weasel. Now I know that math songs are pretty cool....anyways, I am getting sidetracked. So, back to teh food. This place is my favorite Peruvian place, but I haven't tried many "gourmet" Peruvian restaurants. If you haven't tried Peruvian food, you gotta try it. Rated 4 stars on Yelp. Has vegetarian entrees.

This is what my dad and I had:
Chaufa de Mariscos (Fried Rice with Fish, Shrimp, and Squid)
    Quinoa (a south american grain)
Lomo Saltados (a saute with beef, onions, french fries, tomatoes, and maybe some other stuff, served with garlic rice)
Chicken, Rice, and Cilantro Soup, served if you get a lunch or dinner.

    Stuff to Try:
    Appetizers:
Anticuchos (Skewered grilled meat or seafood marinated in vinegar(sounds weird, but is good))
Salchipapas (Hot dog sausage, cut up, served with french fries and their signature hot sauces)

    Sides:
    Garlic Steamed Rice
    Choclo (Peruvian corn(giant, starchy kernels)
    Quinoa
    Cancha (Peruvian Corn Nuts)

    Soups:
Aguadito (chicken, rice and cilantro soup(get bowl, much bigger than cup for just a little more))

    Sauces:
    Aji Verde (green sauce)

    Entrees:
    Lomo Saltados
    Saltados de Mariscos
    Chaufa de Carne
    Chaufa de Pollo
    Chaufa de Mariscos(best)
(Note: Tallarines(Sauteed Spaghetti is not that good...))
(Note: Haven't tried Picantes(Spicy cream sauce with meat or fish or veggies))

    Specials:
(The Seafood thing that looks like yellow curry)(So awesome!!)

    Deserts:
Mini-Alfajores(Shortbread cookies filled with dulce de leche and coated with powdered sugar(don't inhale))
Lucuma Ice Cream (Lucuma is a fruit only found in South America, byt the Amazon(I think?))

    Drinks:
Inka Kola (Yellow drink w/ caffeine, it is to die for)
    Mango nectar

This place is one of my favorite places...so goooood.

This place is very casual. Decor is okay. The prices are really reasonable, in fact very good. Somethings, however, can get expensive, but not too. Not overpriced, however, considering the expensive items are seafood-based. I give this place 4.3-4.4 out of 5. stars.

    Review #2: Pink Berry

Tonight, I went to the Pink Berry in Rancho Palos Verdes, Cali. For those of you who don't know what pink berry is, it's like the awesomest yogurt place ever. The best frickin' frozen yogurt. Not saying that Red Mango, Yogurtland, and Yummy Yogurt(RPV) aren't good too. If you go there, you'll understand my point. South Bay peoples, you know what I'm talkin' about. And for all of you PB(Pink Berry) haters out there, you can go to hell. JK. It's honestly my opinion, you don't have to agree, everyone can have their favorite frozen yogurt place, mine is just PB. For all of you FY(frozen yogurt) newcomers or people oblivious to PB operations, here is a list of benefits @ PB:

-Standard and Luxe toppings(Luxe toppings pay a tad more)
-Liquid, Fruit, Mochi, Chocolate, and other Toppings
-Products: Yogurt(obviously), Fresh fruit bowl(w/ Swirly Whip(a mix of whipped cream and PB yogurt) or whatever it's called), Yogurt Smoothies(Chocolate & Green Tea), Take Home Quarts(Original: $9.99, Flavors: $10.99), or a Yogurt Cone(like an ice cream cone except w/ yogurt)
    -30 toppings
    -4 flavors, one always changes seasonally,: Original(the best), Chocolate(Good), Mango(As of now)(Good), and Blood Orange(As of Now)(Ok)
    -Fresh Fruit
-Will remake yogurt if you don't like for free
    -Unlimited # of toppings
    -Probiotics
    -Nonfat(healthy)
    -No rBST(or whatever it's called)
    -All over south bay

This is the best yogurt I've ever tasted. Will post address soon.

Sorry, no pics due to same problem as Pacific Fish Center.

I rate this 4.7 out of 5 stars for frozen yogurt.

Hi! It's Stephen. So, tonight, I went to the Redondo Beach Pier/Fisherman's Wharf in California. It is awesome. The smell of the sea is in the air...ok, I gotta stop remembering. So yeah, anyways, the restaurants name is Pacific Fish Center. The place is heuuuuge! It was probably like 1000 or more square feet. I suck a measuring, so yeah. =( The place is actually Korean, to tell you the truth. My BFF told mah mom about this place, and she came here with her friend once....or twice. She liked it. We went there to give my mom's BFF from China's son, Chris, a sightseeing tour. Life in Redondo Beach is pretty relaxed. This place was on our plan. My mom is forgetful, so she forgot which one it is, since there's actually two korean crab restaurants(strange, huh?). I'll get to teh other one later. When you walk in, you're greeted by a nice cashier who immediately helps you out. That's a plus. The other staff were ok.. So, onto what we ordered. My mom orders wayyy too much food. So, for four people, we got:

-Korean Spicy Fish Soup- Mild(cause mah mom can't tolerate spicy, which sucks cause I love spicy)
    Prices:
    Small:$20.99
    Large:$25.99
    -Live Dungeness Crab
    Prices:
    Seasonal
    We paid about $44.
    -Baby Octopus with Sauces
    Prices:
    $8.99 Per lb.
    -Live Lobster
    Prices:
    Seasonal
    We paid about $42.

    Overview:
This place is reasonably priced for what it is, by the pier and all.. The lobster, crab, and soup were huge. The baby octopus was a reasonable price. It's pretty good. The soup is sooooo good. the crab is fresh(get the live one). The lobster was good too(same with crab).

I tried dungeness crab liver for the first time, and I thought it was going to be fishy. But, I was wrong, it was pretty good, but it is sorta bitter, more bitter than you'd expect. Not fishy at all. They also sell a sea squirt and sea cucmber plate for $14.99. I wanted to try it, but maybe next time. I heard sea squirt has like a strong taste of the sea, like Andrew Zimmern puts it as a "fish's ass dipped in iodine." Sea cucumber is good, but very gelatinous. I'm not going to put up the prices for other things as of now. They frickin serve everything with melted butter on the side, catering to Americans, but they do something really weird. They also serve everything with Bi Bim Bap sauce on the side, you know, they spicy red stuff. It's good on baby octopus though. They give you a bib, and you'll need a LOT of napkins. It gets messy. =P Also, it comes with a mallet, to crack the shell. There is also a bike path, from Redondo to Santa Monica 23 miles one way, if you're interested. The soup had daikon, shrimp, fish, button mushrooms, onions, and tofu in it. As I mentioned earlier, there is another Korean crab restaurant like 100 feet away from PCC(pacific crab center), that my BFF says is not as good. Maybe I'll have to do a review of that place one day. It could be the next Food War(Travel Channel Show Reference). IDK. We'll have to wait and see...

Sorry, no pics this time, as they are on my phone, I need to figure out how to upload them. Leave a comment if you know.

All in all, I give this place a 3.8-4.0 out of 5.

Recipe #1!: Chinese Style Sour Sauteed/Braised Cabbage

Hi! It's me...and I've got a surprise for you. Today I made this cabbage of Chinese origin. This is my mom's Homemade Recipe. Hope you enjoy it! Not your average Chinese stir-fry. Remember, you can add more ingredients when making a bigger proportion.
    Ingredients:
1/2 Tbsp of Oyster Sauce(A little goes a long way).
1/2 Tbsp of Vinegar(Balsamic or Black Rice Winegar).(They both taste good, it may be hard for you to find Black Rice vinegar. Balsamic tastes awesome!)
    Salt to Taste
1/4 A Head of Cabbage, or more if you want to increase this recipe.
1/2 Tsp of Ground Black Pepper(Finely or Course ground, doesn't matter =D).
Chicken Broth or Water to dilute or make it more moist
    Canola or other Vegetable Oil

    Recipe:
Heat Oil on high for 30 sec-1 min. Prep cabbage by cutting off the bottom, and outer layer of leaf(or not). Toss Cabbage in Oil. Don't be afraid if it sizzle and oil splashes, use a cover and cover it. Turn the heat down to low. if you want some char, keep it on high longer, stirring it every 15 sec. Put in the vinegar of choice, pepper, salt, and oyster sauce. Stir and coat all piece thoroughly. It may not seem coated, but it is. Flip the heat to high and cook for a little longer. If you like stir-fry like dry cabbage, turn the heat off and serve. I like it moist AND crunchy. Add Chicken stock or water. Chicken stock gives it a really good flavor. You could use vegetable stock too. Keep heat on high for a long time and have the lid on. This makes it steam, basically. Don' stew it for a long time if you like it crunchy. For soft cabbage lovers cook for 10 more minutes.

This is a pretty simple recipe. I had to leave the house for a while(30 minutes or so), and it was still good, very tender. I hold no responsibility for injury. Consult parents if you are a child. If you have allergies to any of these foods, don't cook this.

Once again, hope you enjoy it.

    Stephen, out!

    Introduction

Hi, this is Stephen here. I'm 12 years of age. I love food. No duh, that's why I started this blog. Anyways, what this blog is about is that when I travel to places or just around the neighborhood, I will review the restaurant, talk about it, perhaps where a dish got its origin, dishes you should try, or even maybe a video showing you how to make something. Perhaps......an interview. I know some owners of some restaurants, so yeah. I like to ski in my free time(1-2 times a month), snowboard, swim, fence(fencing), play video games and such. Your probably pretty average pre-teen. However, I do get to go places, so I wanted you to see the highlights of the trip.

In June, I will be going to New York City, and in August, to Australia and Bali on a cruise.

One last thing: I want to thank Catherine Kim(she's awesome) at Harvard Square2 Academy for giving me these ideas. This site is dedicated to you.

    My Restaurant Rating System:
0-The worst food I've ever had. Throw it out on the street...rinse mouth with soap kinda stuff.(Will probably never give it out)
1-Just Plain Bad Food. The Yuck Factor. Refuse to Eat It.(Very rarely to never give out)
2-Bad Food. Mediocre. Don't like the stuff, probably will eat it though.(Will rarely to very rarely give out)
3-Average, not too bad, not too good.(Will give out sometimes)
4-Good to Very Good Food. This I will happily eat.....forever.(Will usually give this out)
5-The best frickin' food I have ever tasted, or one of them. World quality. Gourmet heaven.(Will very rarely to never give this out)
    6-???

    My Individual Food Rating System:
0-Same as 0 for the other rating system.
1-Same as 1 for the other rating system.
2-Same as 2 for the other rating system.
3-Same as 3 for the other rating system.
3.8-3.9-3.8 Maybe(Emphasis on MAY) 4 star quality, will change depending on my mood. 3.9, however is 4 star quality, but almost.. Lacking just a tiny bit of the stuff that makes it very good.
E.g. Not fresh. Not the best I;ve had, but still pretty enjoyable. I like it and eat it. Good stuff
4-Same as 4 for the other rating system.
5-This will be given out more often than the 5 in my restaurant rating system. Maybe not as high (*coughgourmetheavencough*) as a rating as that. But the best of that particular dish I have tasted.
    6-???
