Mammoth Ski Trip with Quadruple Reviews

Sorry I didn't post in a while...This is includes details on my ski trip to Mammoth Mountain in Mammoth Lakes, CA, my Review on The Pita Pit: Try Number 1 and 2, Shogun Japanese Restaurant, Burgers Restaurant, and the Mountains food itself. These are reviews # 5, 6, 7, and 8. Hey! it's me, Stephen! So, on Sunday, April 3rd, I set out for Mammoth Mountain, hoping some friends could go *coughhussonFIC(FoodIslandCommunity)cough*. They didn't, and I got sick on Wednesday and Thursday. It sucked, and I couldn't go skiing, and what sucks even more is that I have school tomorrow. Anways, the skiing was great for Spring. Spring skiing is usually slushy and icy, which was what it was on Monday and Tuesday, which is okay with me. However, Friday and Saturday were GREATTT powder days. As I say, Mammoth has the BEST snow in Cali. Monday and Tuesday I skied the top, Climax, Cornice Bowl, and Scotty's. Gravy Chute in the center. These are black and double black diamonds and I'm not trying to brag or anything, I can't just do them. Was going to Paranoids(Paranoid Flats), but I didn't. I ski on my own Fischer Watea 78s. 159 in length. 122 I think in front, 78 underfoot, and I think 107 in back. For those of you who are not familiar with Mammoth, those are run names. Mammoth is big for what it is, a town in the Eastern Sierra, but it is a small little place where the locals know each other. On other travel and review sites, Mammoth locals have been reported to be hostile towards the tourists. Just to let you know, these CLAIMS are not true. They are written by people who just hype up something. All the locals are nice, friendly, warm people. They DO NO HARM. It's layout is basic. There is a place called the Village, the main part of town, then there are houses and condo and whatnot. Then, on the slopes, there are three lodges, or areas to ski out of, Eagle, Canyon, and Main. There is also the Mill, which serves up great barbeque. Now, we get to the food. Also, just to let you know you won't get super posh, gourmet food in the mountains, and a solid 4.0 is very good, a curve in the system.

Review #5: The Pita Pit Try #1 and 2
This place is alll over the country, just to let u know. kk. Where do I start, ah yes, the Pita Pit is a place where they serve items involving pita bread, as the name implies. No duh, they serve naan. JK. The place is not very traditional mediterranean food, you won't find it in Mammoth. Think Subway when you think of the Pita Pit. You choose your pita, white or wheat. You choose your meat, whether it be veggie(no meat), Gyros(Beef), Souvlaki(Chicken), or some other chicken or something. then, you choose your toppings, of fresh veggies, mushrooms, cheeses, bacon, or other stuff. Finally, you choose your sauce, Tzatziki, Secret Sauce(Spicy Vinaigrette(SP?)), BBQ, Teriyaki, or something else. Yes, they do have Teriyaki Sauce. Not traditional, like I said. These are not like pita pockets like you would get in Greece, and I have had them in Greece, they are 20 times better! Get the meat though, it tastes much better, unless you are vegetarian. It's good stuff though. I got, on my first time, a gyros with white pita, with lettuce, spinach, and tzatziki. My dad got a souvlaki with lettuce, mushrooms, tomato, white pita, spinach, and secret sauce. On my second try, my dad got the same thing, except with souvlaki, I got two pitas on wheat, one gyros, one souvlaki, with same toppings and sauce except I added mushroom. I rate The Pita Pit 4.1 out of 5 stars. The service brought it lower, even though they were quick, they didn't smile, and seemed bored, maybe it was jut those particular staff.

Review #6: Shogun Japanese Restaurant
Ok, I don't know why everyone is bashing on Shogun, saying, that it's horrible, never go there again, but in all of my 20-40 experiences there, they have all been very enjoyable. First of all, be sure to get there early, 5:00 PM or so, to beat the dinner crowd. It gets busy. The service is usually pretty good, if you get there early, it deteriorates a little bit. Second of all, don't expect LA quality sushi(although their Robbie roll, named after the original owner, is almost or just as good as any roll in So Cal., also, it's my favorite roll), it's hundreds of miles away, the only Japanese place for 30 miles, and the only one in Mammoth. Third of all, it's not super traditional Japanese cuisine. Fourth of all, it is a little pricey, but of course, it's in the mountains. They also opened a new place down in Bishop, called Yamatani. Haven't been there, but will post the link. My dad and I split an Robbie roll(8 pieces), and almost couldn't finish, as in the mountains, I think your stomach shrinks, if you're not used to it. Mammoth is the only place where I acrually get super full, unless I've been snacking. We also shared a Chicken Teriyaki Dinner(sauce on the side, as my dad doesn't like sauce). The sauce is a little sweet, but good. The chicken is grilled very nicely and has good flavor. It is served with cabbage and a weird tasting Asian inspired Thousand Island dressing. Even though it tastes weird, if you get over it, it is actually very ggod.The Beef Kushiyaki(skewered beef), Yakitori, and Sukiyaki are very good. The Yakitori isn't very traditional, but the Sukiyaki is. They are the only place I've been(I haven't been to many places that serve Sukiyaki) that actually serves it with a raw egg, like they do in Japan. Don't be afraid of Salmonella, unless you are super sensitive. FYI, the sushi takes a long time, for some reason, usually comes with or after the main course is served. Everything is served with Tsukemono(pickled cabbage) and Miso Soup(it's good). The fish quality is ok. I rate this place 4.3-4.4 out of 5 stars.

Review #7: Burgers Restaurant

This place, it's been here for a longgg time, since the 70's or earlier I think. I swear I thought it was named Mooseburgers at one point, but maybe I'm getting it confused with Mooseburgers Restaurant at Six Flags Magic Mountain. It's been called Burger's Burgers, but they changed the name to what it is now. They have the hands down BEST burger I've ever had. You get to choose between turkey, beef, or buffalo(the best). Buffalo is lower in fat and cholesterol, healthier than beef. Then, you choose toppings from mushrooms, blue cheese, guacamole(good), and other toppings. You get a choice between crispy, golden, delicious fries, or a plain garden salad. *Psst, go with the fries* You also get a choice of Thousand Island or BBQ Sauce to dip your burgers and fries in. The price is reasonable, and the place is just downright cozy, with nice staff, and filled with friendly locals and tourists alike. Also, their BBQ Ribs are pretty good, but get the burgers. The Chicken Noodle Soup is very good, the Beef Stew has an interesting flavor. They have HUGE portions. A whole bowl for salad, nice vinaigrette. Get there early(about 5:10 PM or 5:30 PM, more towards 5:10 PM), or come late(past 8:00-8:30 PM), or you'll have to wait a long, 15-45 min. I rate this place 4.6-4.7 out of 5 stars.

Finally: Review #8: Mammoth Mountain

Ok, the lowdown on the Mountain's Food(the food served by the owners of the ski resort and slopes). GOOD to VERY GOOD. At the Mill, they have some of the best BBQ around, whether it be ribs, tri-tip(the best), brisket, pulled pork, or others. It's not tradtional southern BBQ, but it has a huge smoke ring, lucious pink. Little Eagle, the Yodler(a bar), and Outpost 14 are places I don't know about, I haven't eaten there. McCoy Station, named after the original owner and founder of Mammoth Mountain, who lease the land from the US Forest Service for 99 years, Dave McCoy, serves up good food, including grilled, pasta, pizza, asian, and soups. It used to be called the Mid-Chalet. The mountain has a place for kids in the Ski and Snowboard School porgram to eat. The Main Lodge also has some good food. Canyon Lodge's Grizzly Somethingerather(I forgot what it's called) serves good food too. Another awesome place in the McCoy Station, Wafflewich Co., serves up delicious grub. They have super awesome ,tantalizing for your taste buds, mouth watering, food that I crave. They serve, wait for it.......waffle sandwiches like Turkey with Chipotle Mayo and other stuff, and ones filled with Nutella and Banana. I rate Mammoth Mountain's food, 4.1-4.4 out of 5 stars.
